Willow Rosenberg

Willow Rosenberg was born and raised in Sunnydale, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Rosenberg, in a very Jewish household. A reserved and shy person, she is best friends with Xander and had established a reputation as the person to ask for tutoring help. Willow can be charmingly naïve at times - when she was a child, her idea of playing "doctor" was to actually read medical texts and test them out on Xander. (see 2.18, "Killed By Death").

Willow's computer skills are both prodigious and legendary. During Sunnydale High's Career Week, she was one of only two students (the other being Oz) selected to be interviewed by an un-named but very prestigious computer software company, and was chosen to substitute Jenny Calendar's computer class after Angelus murdered her.

Willow and Buffy became friends soon after they met. Unfortunately, Buffy's encouragement for her to seize the moment when it comes to dating boys let to her flirting with a vampire at the Bronze (1.1 - "Welcome To The Hellmouth"). But Buffy rescued her, and Willow repaid the favour by hacking into the city records on her computer to locate the Master's lair. These computer skills make her a prominent member of the Scooby Gang, especially given Giles's technophobia.

Willow has long carried a torch for Xander. They did 'date' for a while in kindergarten, but broke up when he stole her Barbie. in adolescence, she has waited for him to notice her, but he has remained solely a friend to her, apart from an all-too-short incident shortly before the start of their junior year (see 2.1 - "When She Was Bad").

She did try to get over Xander by having an on-line "romance" with a boy named Malcolm, who turned out to be the Corrupter demon Moloch, but the final nail in the coffin for the two pals appeared to have been knocked in when she met Oz.

After Jenny's death, Willow went through the techno-pagan's computer files, websites and books, using them to good effect in "Becoming" (2.21 & 2.22) to restore Angelus's soul. She has successfully performed a few spells, but has been unable to turn Amy (who turned herself into a rat) back into a human. Willow had a hard time when Oz left, but is doing well lately, and enjoying her new friendship with fellow Wiccan Tara.

Willow is played by Alyson Hannigan.
