Amy Madison |
Although Amy is not evil, she is indeed a witch like her mother. She was raised
single-handedly by her mother after her father, the Homecoming King, ran off
with a woman identified only as "Ms. Trailer Trash" when Amy was
12.
In the episode appropriately entitled
"The Witch" (1.3), the Slayer faces her first witch. Catherine Madison,
Amy's mother, was the Homecoming Queen and cheerleading star of Sunnydale High as a teen, but
when Amy failed to show the same promise, Catherine used
witchcraft to swap bodies with her.
In order to win a place on the cheer squad, Catherine (in Amy's body) used magic
to eliminate the competition. In the end, the combined talents of Giles
and Buffy won the day, and Catherine became trapped in
her own cheerleading trophy. After this, Amy went to live with her father
and stepmother, which she found "cool".
Although never interested in following in her mother's footsteps as far as
cheerleading went, she was apparently intrigued by the occult. By the following
school year, it had become
obvious in "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" (2.16) that Amy had
been studying witchcraft. She casts a spell on one of her teachers to make her
believe that she handed in homework which she hadn't done, and is also coerced
by Xander into casting a love spell on Cordelia,
but the spell backfires with hysterical yet discomforting consequences. As of
the end of Series 2, it was unknown as to whether Amy would continue this
pursuit.
Amy is played by Elizabeth Anne
Allen.
